    Job Summary: The Certified Recovery Support Specialist/Mental Health Professional utilizes personal experiences to facilitate and support the recoveries of others and to help shape the mental health recovery system in McHenry County.  The CRSS/MHP has primary responsibility for facilitating and supporting the recovery of others. The CRSS/MHP serves as the NAMI McHenry County liaison to community stakeholders and other network agencies and effectively collaborates to design and deliver a system of care that meets the behavioral healthcare needs of McHenry County and its residents.  As the leader in the recovery process, the CRSS/MHP is aware of personal needs to maintain their own recovery.

    General Responsibilities of Certified Recovery Support Specialist/Mental Health Professional:

     Collaboration:  Works with the McHenry County community, consumers and families, healthcare providers, human service organizations to assure their active participation in the recovery process.

    Planning:  Prepares and directs the planning processes that promote goal identification and evaluation.  Key outcomes include:

    • Periodic review and evaluation of system services provided by NAMI McHenry County.
    • Help develop an annual written plan for services provided.
    • Help develop an annual budget.

    Organizing:  Consults with community stakeholders regarding the most efficient delivery of prevention, early intervention, habilitation, treatment and supportive services that are recovery and resiliency focused and that promote self-determination and choice.

    Coordinating:  Coordinate with other agencies to share the role of NAMI-MC within our system of care and our ability to support the recovery of their clients and support family members.

     Professional Background and Experience:  At a minimum the following is required:

    • Education: High School Diploma required.
    • Must have 5+ years of experience in a community human service setting.
    • Must be current in the CRSS certification or near completion of certification.
    • Must have training in the recovery model and experience working with Boards.
    • Must have a self-disclosed personal mental health life experience with mental health supports in place.

    Skills & Capabilities:

    The CRSS/MHP should have written skills and oral communication skills including the ability to give formal presentations in small and large groups.

    • Have a valid driver’s license.
    • Provide certificate of automobile insurance per policy.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Must demonstrate understanding of Recovery Principles.
    • Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
    • Ability to advocate for, motivate and empower others.

    Physical Abilities:

    • Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
    • Ability to lift and/or move at least 10 pounds using proper body mechanics.
    • Visual acuity to read a computer screen and other documents.
    • Ability to utilize the telephone and respond to callers.
    • Fluent in Spanish a Plus.

    Work Hours: Part-time

    • Must be able to work flexible hours to meet consumer and program needs.

    Other duties as assigned.
