Get to Know John. . .

John has worked in the mental health/addiction counseling field since 1969. He obtained his bachelor's degree in Psychology from Coe College in 1967 and his master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from Southern Illinois University. He was one of the founders of the addiction counselor certification movement in Illinois and currently holds certification number 10. In the Spring of 2006, John was elected to the IAODAPCA board of directors.

During his years in the mental health and addiction counseling field, he has been a counselor, a clinical supervisor and an executive director of both inpatient and outpatient treatment programs. John also has been an employee assistance counselor in an industrial setting. In addition to his clinical work, he has consulted with treatment programs in program development, regulatory compliance and quality assurance issues. Mr. Reese has also consulted with businesses in developing employee assistance programs, compliance with Department of Transportation regulations for alcohol and drug abuse testing and the Drug Free Workplace Act. In his private practice, John provides clinical services, as well as being a State of Illinois qualified DUI evaluator. He performs substance abuse assessments for such organizations as courts, Department of Children and Family Services, employee assistance providers, and adoption agencies.

John was a founding member of the committee that developed the Human Services Department at Waubonsee Community College in 1989. He continued as an adjunct instructor until he was appointed as a full time instructor for Waubonsee's program in August of 1999. In addition to his years at Waubonsee, John also has been an adjunct instructor at the College of DuPage, where in 1991 he was named "outstanding part time instructor." He has also taught adjunct at the University of Chicago. Given his strong counseling and assessment skills John serves as chairperson of Waubonsee Community College's J Student Conduct Board, and is an active member of the College's Crisis Assessment Team, and Safety Response Committee College.

John lives in the Fox Valley area with his wife. His hobbies include golf, gardening, and woodworking.
