2009 Fall Conference Wrap Up
By: Dianne Gutierrez, IAODAPCA Senior Operations

The 2009 IAODAPCA Fall Conference was held at the Rend Lake Resort in Whitting, Illinois on October 26th and ran through October 29th 2009.  This was the time when we escaped the busy cities and hectic schedules to relax, put on our comfortable clothes and settle into a calm, relaxing week of networking and informative trainings in a nature inspired setting. The overall perception of the attendees at conference has turned out to be one of the best. Just read some of the feedback from our attendees . . . .

“Quality beyond my Expectations”

“The workshops were terrific; very informative and professional.”

“Setting /resort was excellent, Rend Lake is top notch.”

Every year the IAODAPCA staff rallies around this type of feedback. We incorporate it into next year’s conference, not only the positive comments but all requests and suggestions are utilized. The feedback is a significant component to our continued success.

A wide range of topics were discussed through out the week.  Mark Sanders presented helpful tips on how to incorporate activities and incentives into treatment.  Valerie Arnett took the disease of Sex Addiction and dissected it to its core.  Bruce Sewick put a whole new perspective on psychedelic medicines.  Brian Lengfelder, always a crowd pleaser, brought his knowledge of Depression in Early Recovery to the table.  We thank each and every presenter for committing to the IAODAPCA Fall Conference and thank you for everything you do to educate and inspire our members.

Budget cuts took a toll on vendors this year, but those who were able to commit benefited.  We know that your dollars are stretched and it takes a lot of effort to travel to our conferences. IAODAPCA continues to be grateful to you for your dedication.  We would not be able to hold this event without your support.

IAODAPCA would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to the volunteers who helped throughout the week.  With volunteers, IAODAPCA is able to execute a flawless week of organization and enables the staff to focus on the needs of the members.  IAODAPCA continues to appreciate and value the time and dedication each volunteer puts forth.

The conference does not provide the fancy hotel rooms, the swanky restaurants or even the spotless crevasses most are familiar with.  Some may have had to become acclimated to nature and it surroundings, but the overall goal with the Fall Conference is not about that; it is about getting the field together, networking with your peers and taking in all the knowledge and latest techniques that presenters and exhibitors have to offer, The benefit? Addiction professionals are able to do their jobs more effectively and are able to successfully assist their clients in the recovery process.

So thank you to all who were able to attend, we hope to see all of you next year.
