Workshop D "Terms of Engagement – Working with Adolescents in Treatment" – Jocelyn J. Boudreau, MSW, LCSW, CADC
The field of adolescent addictions presents many challenges for clinicians. One of the most formidable is how to engage young people in any form of potentially successful therapeutic alliance. This training is designed for addictions professionals who want to increase their understanding of adolescent substance abuse. The use of motivational interviewing to increase engagement and retention in adolescent treatment will be explored. Participants will identify unique needs of adolescents related to substance use and abuse, examine adolescent-specific interventions, learn how developmental issues complicate treatment, recognize the elements of an effective adolescent substance abuse treatment program and understand the impact of dual diagnosis on adolescent treatment and recovery.

Workshop E "MISA Services in Illinois" – Nanette Larson, BA; Randi Tolliver, PhD, CADC and Gene Oulvey, PhD, CRSS, Trina Diedrich, MS, CADC, CRSS
This workshop will cover Wellness Recovery Action Planning: A Self Directed Approach to Recovery, Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment: Implementation and Program Maintenance in Mental Health and Substance Abuse Settings, Evidence-Based Supportive Employment, and Recovery Education.

Workshop F "Clinical Considerations of the Criminal Justice Population" – Brian Lengfelder, LPC, CMADC, MISA I, CCJP, MAC, ICCS, ACRPS, CDMS
The criminal justice population is escalating as more and more drug involved clients are being coerced, mandated, or ordered into substance abuse treatment. Some of these clients are in the early stages of recognizing serious life problems and lack appropriate coping strategies for solutions. They can be resistant to receiving assistance, reserved to disclosing their problems, and are among the earliest premature discharges from our facilities. This workshop is designed to assist clinicians with understanding the clinical considerations this population brings to treatment. Participants will be given material on the culture, characteristics and syndromes of the criminal justice population to assist with formulation of clinical interventions to provide successful outcomes of substance abuse treatment.
