 Substance Abuse Professional (SAP) SAP Maintenance Requirements Continuing Education: During each three-year period following satisfactory completion of your home study course training and IC&RC examination, you must complete at least 12 professional development hours (CEUs) relevant to your performing SAP duties. This continuing education must include material concerning new technologies, interpretations, recent guidance, rule changes, and other information regarding developments in SAP practice pertaining to the DOT program. No fee is required to renew your SAP credential; however, renewing your certificate at the end of the three-year period will be each individual's decision and responsibility. No notice will be mailed. To renew, simply submit your expired certificate to IAODAPCA and the 12 hours of CEUS as outline above. Once the CEUS are verified and approved, a new certificate will be mailed to you. If you do not renew your certificate prior to the expiration date, you will be removed from all referral lists and be required to complete the entire program over to obtain a new certificate.
