Maintaining Your ATODA Preventionist Certification

Under the Illinois Model for Alcohol, Tobacco and Other Drug Abuse Preventionist Certification, certified ATODA preventionists are required to pay a biennial recertification fee and submit 40 continuing education units (CEUs).

Each certified ATODA preventionist will be notified that his or her certification is about to expire no fewer than 30 days prior to the expiration of certification. The preventionist should pay the biennial recertification fee and submit CEUs after receiving such notification. The preventionist should not submit CEUs until the biennial notice is received.

Continuing Education Requirements
The purpose of continuing education is to promote ongoing professional development. It benefits the individual, group, organization, and community to whom prevention services are provided, the ATODA preventionist, and the ATODA prevention profession.
