Certified ATODA Preventionist Code of Ethics

Section 1: Ethical Responsibilities to the Public and Profession

Principle 1.1:

Certified ATODA Preventionists shall strive at all times to maintain the highest of standards in the services they offer.

    Responsibility 1.1.1:

    The maintenance of high standards of competency is a responsibility shared by all Certified ATODA Preventionists.

    Responsibility 1.1.2:

    In circumstances where Certified ATODA Preventionists or Counselors violate ethical standards, it is the obligation of Certified ATODA Preventionists who have first hand knowledge of unethical activities to attempt to rectify the situation and report all ethical violations to IAODAPCA.

Principle 1.2:

Certified ATODA Preventionists respect their professional status and standing.

    Responsibility 1.2.1:

    Certified ATODA Preventionists will not misrepresent their professional qualifications and affiliations.

    Responsibility 1.2.2:

    Certified ATODA Preventionists will not aid or abet a person not duly certified as an ATODA Preventionist or Counselor in representing himself/herself as a Certified ATODA Preventionist or Counselor or at a certification classification which is not true.

Principle 1.3:

Certified ATODA Preventionists have an obligation to see that ATODA prevention services are provided by qualified, competent persons. Constructive efforts to ensure delivery of competent ATODA prevention services, such as preventionist certification, deserve support.

    Responsibility 1.3.1:

    Certified ATODA Preventionists are required to submit accurate and honest information to IAODAPCA for the purpose of obtaining, maintaining and recommending someone for certification.

Principle 1.4:

In representing alcohol, tobacco, and other drug abuse prevention services, Certified ATODA Preventionists concern themselves with accuracy, fairness, and the dignity of the profession.

    Responsibility 1.4.1:

    In promotional and marketing activities for ATODA prevention services, Certified ATODA Preventionists shall respect the dignity and confidentiality of the communities, organizations, groups, and individuals they serve.
