Eligibility Standards for MISA I/II
- Registration Eligibility Standards
- MISA I
- 2000 hours (1 year) of paid qualified* experience. A minimum of 250 hours of work experience must be documented within the past year, and the remaining hours within the past 4 years. Persons holding a BA/BS degree in human services or behavioral sciences with at least 9 semester hours in AODA training/education and 9 semester hours in mentalillness training/education, may waive 500 hours of the required MISA work experience.
- The applicant for registration must document a minimum of 190 clock hours of training in the knowledge and skills areas related to the Core Functions.
- The applicant must document a minimum of 120 hours of supervision covering MISA Core Functions.
- Successful completion of the ICRC AODA written examination

- MISA II
- 4000 hours (2 years) of paid qualified* experience. A minimum of 250 hours of work experience must be documented within the past year, and the remaining hours within the past 4 years. Persons holding a MA/MS degree in human services or behavioral sciences with at least 9 semester hours in AODA training/education and 9 semester hours in mental illness training/education, may waive 1000 hours of the required MISA work experience.
- BA/BS in Human Services or Behavioral Sciences is required.
- The applicant for registration must document a minimum of 310 clock hours of training in the knowledge and skills areas related to the Core Functions.
- The applicant must document a minimum of 250 hours of supervision covering MISA Core Functions.
- Successful completion of the ICRC Advanced ADOA written examination.

How To Apply For Registration
All applicants are required to purchase an application and must have access to the Illinois Standards for Board Registered Mental Illness/Substance Abuse I/II. The Illinois Standards contains information about the application process, testing, and registration maintenance and must be purchased if access to one is not available.

*Qualified work experience is defined as paid employment working with a client caseload/assignment of at least 50% meeting the MISA symptomatology. Additionally, at least 50% of the time devoted to MISA clientele must be spent providing direct service in individual and/or group settings with MISA clients and/or their families/significant others. If you are a current supervisor of direct service MISA workers and have been for more than four (4) years, you may use the time prior to the four (4) years to substantiate your direct service paid work experience.
