Maintaining Your AODA Counselor Certification

Under the Illinois Model for Counselor Certification, certified AODA counselors are required to pay a biennial recertification fee and submit 40 continuing education units (CEUs).

Each certified AODA counselor will be notified that his or her certification is about to expire no fewer than 30 days prior to the expiration of certification. The counselor should pay the biennial recertification fee and submit CEUs after receiving such notification. The counselor should not submit CEUs until the biennial notice is recieved.

Continuing Education Requirements
The purpose of continuing education is to promote ongoing professional development. It benefits the client, the AODA counselor, and the AODA profession.
