Section Title

Certified Criminal Justice Addictions Professional (CCJP)

Supervision
INACTIVE STATUS will be made available to a CCJP who expects to be inactive for more than two years and who is in good standing with ICB and who:
  • intends to remain active in the criminal justice treatment profession and leaves the state
  • leaves the criminal justice treatment field to retire
  • leaves the criminal justice treatment profession for purposes of academic achievement
  • leaves the criminal justice treatment profession for extended active military duty
  • leaves the criminal justice treatment profession for health reasons
  • leaves the criminal justice treatment profession because of extenuating personal reasons
  • leaves the criminal justice treatment profession and elects not to maintain their certification via the continuing education mechanism

CCJPs requesting inactive status for health or extenuating personal reasons may do so after a petition to ICB has been approved. Such a petition may be sought after a health or extenuating personal circumstance has occurred, but in determining approval, ICB will decide if the circumstances warranted the late petition.

Inactive status allows CCJPs to prevent expiration of their certification, thus avoiding the full reapplication process. INACTIVE STATUS WILL NOT BE GRANTED FOR NONCOMPLIANCE WITH THE CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENT OF THE CERTIFICATION. CCJPs not meeting the continuing education requirements and pay aproppriate fees provided for under the Illinois Model will have their certification terminated.

Procedures
Process for reinstating a certificate from inactive status:
  1. CCJPs who have left the profession but find they need to reinstate their certification prior to the lapse of two years time will submit their request in writing and provide ICB with the required certification fees, reapplication fee, and verification of the resumption of employment or continuing education activities. The CCJP will have paid the same fees as if there had been continuous certification.

  2. CCJPs who have had their certification on inactive status for more than two years will request reinstatement in writing and provide ICB with the required certification fee, reapplication fee, and written exam fee. The CCJP will successfully complete the written exam required by ICB, and submit a current job description to demonstrate renewed employment activity on agency letterhead, signed and dated by the CCJPs supervisor.
