The Illinois Certification Board (ICB) has announced significant updates to the Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) credentialing process, designed to modernize testing, reduce redundancy, and simplify continuing education requirements for recovery support professionals across the state.

Important Update

Requests for reinstatements have been paused. ICB will resume taking requests on October 30th.

If your credential has been terminated, you may not present yourself as holding a credential.

The ICB office will be closed for staff development beginning Monday, October 13, 2025. Staff will return on Thursday, October 16, 2025.
